Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a Recreation Officer I to lead and support a wide-ranging recreation program inside state facilities. You will organize and supervise indoor/outdoor activities and ensure safe, engaging experiences for a diverse population.

Responsibilities include scheduling spaces, maintaining equipment, supervising staff, and coordinating events. A strong background in group recreation or physical education and related certifications or college credit hours is

Qualifications

• One or more years of experience as a Recreation Officer I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR
• Six or more years of experience in group recreation or physical education with responsibility for organizing, scheduling and overseeing recreation activities
• Credit hours substitution allowed at 30 hours per year for up to three years of experience (minimum three years required)
• All required documents must be received by the closing date

Responsibilities

• Directs a recreation program of limited scope or assists in organizing/conducting a variety of indoor/outdoor activities, games and sports
• Schedules facilities for activities and events; prepares for special events and coordinates outside activities
• Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of recreation facilities and equipment
• May supervise staff and guide less-experienced workers; addresses participant behavior and program needs
• Receives general administrative direction and performs related work as assigned
