Job summary

The City of West Fargo is seeking a Recreation Specialist to plan, coordinate, and evaluate recreation programs for the West Fargo Park District. You will recruit and train part-time staff, manage registrations, and maintain accurate records in several systems.

The role requires strong organizational and budgeting skills, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Exempt, full-time, with benefits and a competitive pay range.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Communications, Business Administration, Project Management, or related field.
• Ability to provide hands-on instruction, teaching, and coaching.
• Ability to independently prioritize responsibilities, anticipate operational needs, problem solve, troubleshoot, and adapt effectively to changing circumstances.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, participants, families, community partners, and members of the public.
• Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
• Proficient computer and administrative skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, administers, evaluates, and supports assigned recreation programs and activities, ensuring quality experiences.
• Leads the administrative preparation of programs for seasonal guides, including dates, schedules, locations, fees, and staffing.
• Coordinates with Marketing to ensure activity guide submissions and program information meet deadlines.
• Creates and maintains programs in ACTIVE Net and other registration systems with accurate fees and dates.
• Monitors registrations and enrollment trends and recommends promotions or program changes.
• Coordinates recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of part-time employees and volunteers.
• Ensures staff understand program expectations, safety procedures, and customer service standards.
• Maintains program records and collects participation, revenue, and staffing data.
• Responds to participant inquiries and issues professionally and promptly.
