Job summary

The Town of Florence is seeking a motivated Recreation Coordinator who will assist in planning, coordinating, and evaluating a wide variety of recreation activities and events. This role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and high-quality service to the community.

Qualifications

Job Summary

Performs a variety of work assisting in the planning, implementation, and coordination of a wide variety of recreation activities, programs and special events at recreation centers, parks, schools, or other locations.

Supervision

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Duties And Responsibilities

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.   • Organizes, coordinates, and implements recreational, social, and educational programs and special events, including meals and transportation services at the Town Senior Center.
  • Maintains facilities in a clean and neat manner, reports problems, ensures safe work environment.
  • Participate in the selection, training, motivation and evaluation of part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with purchasing necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise the distribution, care, use and maintenance of supplies and equipment for assigned programs.
  • Assist with records and the development of reports pertaining to program effectiveness.
  • Maintain records of registrations and fees collected; assist with the maintenance and filling of accident and statistical reports, as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuals, announcements, bulletins, and promotional materials including news releases, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures.
  • Perform on-site program inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and safety policies and procedures.
  • Attending meetings as assigned.
  • Some positions will require the performance of additional position accountabilities.
  • Assist with other recreation programs/special events as requested.
  • Performs all other related duties, as assigned.
Education And Experience Required

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in working in recreational or educational programs/activities; preferably working with senior adults, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing, follow verbal and written instructions, and posses’ good public speaking skills.

  • Ability to work schedule required to fulfill duties of position. At times, an individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
  • Ability to assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of recreation activities and specialized events.
  • Ability to prepare and distribute flyers, posters, and other advertisements for program areas.
  • Ability to train, supervise and evaluate part-time staff and program volunteers.
  • Ability to supervise the purchase, use, care, and maintenance of supplies and equipment related to assigned area.
  • Ability to resolve procedural, operational, and other work-related problems (i.e., scheduling conflicts, resources acquisitions, facility conflicts) relating to the assigned area.
  • Ability to perform physical inventories of program supplies and equipment.
