The Recreation Program Supervisor is a full-time, experienced-level classification responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, promoting, and conducting recreation programs and activities for the City's Parks and Recreation Department. This position provides assistance to the Director of Parks and Recreation in a variety of program planning, administrative, supervisory, and community service capacities. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, with latitude granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Responsibilities include coordinating recreation programs and activities, scheduling, supervising and training part-time recreation staff, coordinating activities with other City departments, agencies, and community organizations, and addressing the day-to-day operational needs of assigned programs and facilities. Work is typically performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation environments, including recreation facilities, gyms, parks, and other community locations. Outdoor work may include exposure to inclement weather. Work includes light to moderate physical activity, and schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Plans, develops, promotes, coordinates, and conducts a variety of recreational programs and activities for youth, adults, and seniors.
- Develops new recreation programs, activities, special events, and related content based on community interests and needs.
- Prepares and implements program publicity and promotional materials, including brochures, announcements, press notices, and other communications.
- Provides information and assistance to the public regarding recreation programs, activities, schedules, facilities, and services.
- Evaluates program effectiveness, participation, and costs and maintains related records and information.
- Assists with assessing community recreation needs and opportunities, evaluating programs and facilities, and developing grant opportunities and applications.
- Coordinates with the Director of Parks and Recreation, Recreation and Transit Administrative Supervisor, other City departments, and community organizations to plan and deliver effective and efficient programs and activities.
- Prepares work schedules and supervises, trains, and evaluates Recreation Program Coordinators, Recreation Leaders, and volunteer staff.
- Coordinates the use, preparation, and availability of recreation facilities, equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for assigned programs and activities.
- Prepares reports and provides information for program planning, budgets, expenditures, and other administrative purposes.
- Coordinates with community organizations, service providers, and other partners to support recreation programs and activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to:
- Plan, organize, develop, and implement a variety of recreation programs and activities.
- Assess community recreation needs and develop programs and activities to address those needs.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate recreation staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate the use of facilities, equipment, supplies, and other resources necessary for assigned programs and activities.
- Maintain records and prepare accurate and reliable reports related to programs, activities, and administrative functions.
- Prepare publicity and promotional materials and effectively communicate program information to the public.
- Make effective public speaking presentations and represent the City's recreation programs and services with individuals, organizations, and the community.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, community organizations, program participants, and the public.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Exercise sound judgment and initiative in carrying out assigned responsibilities and resolving routine problems.
- Organize and perform a variety of duties and responsibilities accurately and efficiently under deadlines and changing priorities.

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Any combination of training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the requisite knowledge and abilities would be three (3) years of experience working with youth and/or in the planning, development, coordination, or delivery of public recreation programs and activities, including supervisory experience..
- First aid and CPR training is desirable.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check as a condition of employment and maintain eligibility for employment based on the results of such screening.
- May be required to maintain a valid California Driver’s License throughout employment. Incumbent will participate in the DMV “Pull Program”.
