The Artist Cottage & Apothecary Prep Attendant is responsible for facilitating self-guided activities and hosting guests during our Open Studio hours. He/she will assist in setting up art and apothecary projects, providing guidance on projects, and cleaning up workstations and supplies, in a space with high turnover in peak seasons. He/she will support the Artist Cottage Coordinator and Experience Facilitators, including assisting with daily activities such as soap making, wind chime classes, ink dye coasters, candle making, beekeeping and honey tasting, guided bike tours, bike kiosk attendant duties, seasonal activities, and group activities like the Great Race and guacamole and salsa challenge. The attendant will help maintain a clean and organized environment and report to the Artist Cottage Coordinator with any inventory or cleanliness concerns.

STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is customer service oriented with an interest or background in art and knowledge about essential oils. They should work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, have the ability to multitask, and be resourceful and adaptable to new tasks using problem-solving skills. There is an opportunity to develop new activities and classes collaboratively. A flexible schedule is required, including weekends and holidays.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience in hospitality and customer service
  • Ability to interact professionally with guests and staff at all levels to explain programs and experiences
  • Ability to represent the Ojai Valley Inn professionally in communications with guests, community, press, and media
  • Understanding of the needs of luxury travelers and ability to provide related services, activities, and amenities to enhance their experience
  • Imagination and flexibility to produce optimal outcomes for guest and staff experiences
  • Polished, professional, and welcoming demeanor with professional telephone etiquette
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Hospitable attitude
  • Ability to teach art to novices and experienced artists or enthusiasts
  • Strong interest in art and essential oils
  • Knowledge of various cultural influences in art and customs
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, SMS, Outlook, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities include teaching or leading activities that are inclusive and engaging, assisting with planning of special events, offering facility tours, researching and proposing supplies and equipment, attending mandatory meetings, protecting the environment of the Artist’s Cottage & Apothecary, accurately posting charges, and maintaining knowledge of resort outlets, events, and room locations.
