Job summary

Whitfield County, GA is seeking a hands-on maintenance worker to help maintain county parks and facilities. The role involves operating light equipment, performing routine maintenance, and assisting with construction layouts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining County Parks and Facilities.
  • Assist with maintaining right-of-way County roads, sidewalks and walkways as instructed.
  • Follow safety procedures and monitor work environment for safety.
  • Operate or assist with light equipment and tools to support essential functions.
  • Locate underground utilities.
  • Assist with layout of construction projects.
  • Clean up storm damage and debris from park facilities.
  • Perform routine vehicle, equipment, and tool maintenance; report faulty equipment.
  • Communicate with supervisor and other departments to coordinate work.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work associated with projects within the Parks & Recreation Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assistswithmaintaining, all County Parks and Facilities.
  • When instructed, assists with maintaining select right-of-way County roads, sidewalks and walkways.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of other employees and the public.
  • If operational tempo dictates the employee may be asked to operate or assist with other projects located both on and off of the right of way. This may include the operation of a variety of light equipment, machinery, and tools as necessary to support essential functions, which may include Turf Mowers (both push and ride), Wood Chipper, High Pressure Pipe Jetter, Skid Steer, Motorized Broom.

  • Performs minor routine maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing or cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; checking air, tires, blades, belts, hoses, and lubrication. Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; training in flagging traffic; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, or traffic hazards.
