The Parks & Recreation Department in City & Borough of Juneau is seeking a Recreation Maintenance Worker to support the Treadwell Ice Arena crew. The role focuses on safe operation of equipment and providing a quality ice surface for the public.

The position offers a varied, part-time schedule (about 20 hours per week) with early morning hours at the Treadwell Arena in Douglas, Alaska. Candidates must be at least 18, hold a valid driver's license, and have current First Aid/CPR certification

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• A valid Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
• Current First Aid/CPR certificate within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assists with installing, removing and maintaining the ice rink surface
• Operates the ice resurfacing machine and ice edger to maintain ice conditions
• Performs daily routine facility maintenance and light repair tasks including facility maintenance checks and ice maintenance
• Assists with cleaning of work areas and outside grounds
• Operates skate sharpener and blade sharpener and keeps all rental ice skates in good working condition for public use
• Assists the front office staff when needed
• Lifts, and carries heavy objects (nets)
• Completes required paperwork associated with duties, such as accident reports and maintenance logs.
• Attends safety meetings and training sessions.
• Other related duties as assigned

The Treadwell Arena staff is a small group of dedicated individuals, and we are looking for a team player to join our crew. Ideally, we would like an individual who can safely operate machinery and equipment and is interested in providing a quality ice surface at a favorite recreational facility.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works a varied schedule approximately 20 hours per week (Monday through Sunday) 5:30am-midnight at Treadwell Arena in Douglas.

The ice rink season runs approximately from Mid-July through April each year.

Under direction of the Lead Maintenance Worker, this position is responsible for:
