Are you looking for a fun, fast-paced part-time position? Do you like to lead and engage activities and programs for all ages in our community? If so, the Recreation Leader position might be right for you!

The Recreation Leader works directly with other departmental staff members to provide assistance in the administration of programs and activities such as the Afterschool Program, Alta Vista Community Center, Teen Programs, and Senior Programs. We also have summertime seasonal opportunities available for cashiers and maintenance staff at Seaside Lagoon.

This is a part-time/seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position designated as at-will and ineligible for City benefits.

The duties for this part-time position may include but are not limited to the following: Participating in staff trainings and meetings, promoting the program, recruiting participants, keeping accurate records, ensuring participant safety, and planning, organizing, leading, and supervising daily activities. Activities include but are not limited to group games, sports, arts and crafts, special events and contests. Employees may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Available Opportunities and Schedules:

• Afterschool Program: 2:30pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday
• Alta Vista Facility: 7:30am-9:00pm, 4 to 6 hour shift per day
• Senior Centers: 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, 4 to 6 hour shift per day
• Summer Camp Counselor: Full day June- August
• Seaside Lagoon Cashier and Maintenance: Seasonally, from May - September of each year
• Opportunities to work other programs and events throughout the year
• Approximately 20 hours per week and up to 950 hours per year

Qualifications include:

Effective leadership skills; creativity; good decision making; ability to exercise appropriate judgment; ability to teach; ability to lead by example. Candidates must be at least 16 years old to apply.

Desired education and/or experience:

Preferably some college credit in related field of study; experience working with children and/or seniors; experience leading recreation programs, and leadership skills.

POSITION INFORMATION, SALARY, AND ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

• Temporary, part-time (PT), at-will position
• Salary at $16.00/hr. to $17.00/hr. depending on qualifications
• Opportunity to promote to part-time Assistant Recreation Coordinator and/or part-time Program Coordinator, based on work experience and performance as Recreation Leader I/II

The selection process may include but is not limited to: application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview.
