Job summary

Douglas County is seeking an energetic Recreation Leader to support youth programs, summer activities, and facility operations at the Kahle Community Center in Stateline. You will help create a safe, welcoming environment and coordinate a variety of recreation programs.

This year-round, part-time role offers up to 19 hours per week with no benefits. You will lead activities, manage supplies, supervise participants, and assist with on-site and off-site events.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience leading recreational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Must have or obtain First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen, CPR, and AED certification within six months of date of employment
• Valid Driver's License

• Performs intermediate work leading and overseeing a variety of recreation and activity programs at designated facilities; prepares lesson plans and leads games and craft activities; works as primary contact at camps and during off-site trips
• Maintains records of programs and activities including rosters, attendance, time cards, and emergency contacts; ensures proper parent/guardian contact and pickup
• Receives and manages funds at events; inventories program supplies and snacks; assists in shopping and ordering supplies

As our Recreation Leader, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for participants by supporting a variety of recreation programs, activities, special events, and facility operations. This position may assist with youth programs, summer programming, off-site activities, event preparation, program supervision, staff support, and other daily recreation needs.

We are looking for an outgoing self-starter who thrives in an energetic and active environment and is willing to jump in where needed. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, safety-focused, and able to help create a fun and inclusive experience for participants of all ages.

NOTE: Work schedules for Recreation Leaders will vary based on the program, activity, or event being supported. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on program needs. The Recreation Leader is a year-round position.

This recruitment will fill a position at the Kahle Community Center location in Stateline. This position is scheduled for up to 19 hours per week and does not qualify for benefits.

Primary Objectives

Performs intermediate work leading and overseeing a variety of recreation and activity programs at assigned and/or designated recreation facilities; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

1. Responsible for the development, implementation, and conduct of recreation programs and activities, including direct supervision and guidance of youth participants; prepares lesson plans and leads games and craft activities; works as primary contact at camps and during off-site trips.
2. Maintains records of programs and activities including, but not limited to, rosters, daily roll sheets/attendance records, time cards, and emergency contacts; ensures up-to-date and accurate contact list for parents and/or legal guardians and ensures that children are picked up in accordance with authorizations on file.
3. May receive funds at events; maintains accurate inventory of program supplies, games, crafts, etc.; participates in the shopping/ordering of supplies and snacks.
4. Inspects facility to ensure youth safety and maintains a clean and organized recreational area; cleans up spills and unsanitary conditions when they occur.
5. Prepares supplies and materials for programs and activities and prepares snacks; arranges chairs, tables, and sporting or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities; operates audiovisual equipment, as needed.
6. Coordinates activities; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; coaches, instructs, and provides training to employees as necessary; prepares activity and snack schedules; participates in training opportunities and attends staff meetings.
7. Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
8. Periodically drives children and other passengers in a county vehicle for off-site activities; monitors trip petty cash and activities of youth during recreational trips or tours; disciplines youth participants according to established policies and procedures, as necessary.
9. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
10. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
11. Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
