Job summary

City of Yuma is seeking a Recreation Assistant/Instructor to join the Parks & Recreation – Youth Activities Division. Under basic supervision, you will assist in delivering a wide range of recreation programs and events, coach participants, and help with setup, operation and safety across venues.

The role may involve coordinating activities, supervising participants, and providing support for special events and activities for diverse age groups.

Qualifications

• No specific education or prior experience is required.
• Preferred experience in customer service or group activities.
• Must be at least 15 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and coordinating program activities for a wide variety of age groups and special populations; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
• Coordinate programs, activities, excursions and events; collects and distributes supplies and materials for events.
• Organizes activities; schedules, inspects and prepares venues; assists with instructing, coaching, officiating, and/or scorekeeping games.
• Acts as recreation leader, coach and referee for organized activities; explains and enforces rules and proper behavior; safety standards and good sportsmanship.
• Supervises program participants, and regulations and safety precautions at indoor and outdoor facilities; maintains discipline, monitors behavior, enforces rules, and resolves issues.
