Job summary

A leading parks department is seeking a part-time Recreation Facility Attendant to provide excellent customer service and supervise various athletic programs at Waukegan's SportsPark. The ideal candidate will have a background in recreation and will assist in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all park patrons. Flexible evening and weekend hours are expected, with competitive pay based on experience.

Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.29 Hourly

Status of Employment:
Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Union-subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement through Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local #73.

Compensation & Benefits:

Expected hiring range $15.00 - $16.00 based on education, experience, and skills.

Description/Duties:

  • Demonstrate good customer service in communicating with rental groups and patrons.
  • Enforce facility use rules and guidelines and park district policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines.
  • Assist with the leadership and operation of youth and adult athletics.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of programs and special events.
  • Supervise programs and participants.
  • Answer customer inquiries or direct to appropriate staff as necessary, collect fees, follow parking procedures as outlined by supervisor.
  • May set-up and take down, clean, and maintain appropriate equipment and supplies for activities.
  • Conduct walk through inspection to ensure site safety and document deficiencies as required.
  • May assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding participants, programs, and services.
  • Wear assigned uniforms at all times while on duty.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Contact emergency personnel as needed.
  • Enforce Park district policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines.
  • Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
  • Conduct self-according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
  • Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school graduate preferred.
  • Some college preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals of various ages and abilities.
  • Experience supervising groups of individuals in a recreational setting.

Knowledge:

  • General knowledge of recreation principles and philosophy.
  • General knowledge of customer service, fitness and sports.
  • Equipment set-up and use for athletic programs or fitness activities.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.


License / Certification:

  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.

Conditions of Employment May Include:

Hours:
Mostly evening and weekend hours; schedule may vary.
