Job summary

The Schervier Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Bronx, NY is seeking an experienced Recreation Director to lead our Activities Department in a skilled nursing facility. You will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program in line with NYS DOH and CMS guidelines.

The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, creative, and skilled in long-term care, with strong leadership abilities and a passion for improving residents’ quality of life through engaging activities.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility.
• Experience as Recreation Director or Activities Director preferred.
• Knowledge of NYS DOH regulations for nursing homes.
• MDS and care planning experience required.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• ADC certification or eligibility preferred.
• Background check and NYS health requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement activities programs meeting NYS DOH and CMS regulations.
• Complete MDS sections related to activities and participate in care plan meetings.
• Conduct resident assessments and develop individualized activity care plans.
• Create and post monthly activity calendars.
• Plan and supervise group programs, 1:1 activities, outings, and events.
• Manage department budget and maintain activity supplies.
• Supervise, train, and schedule staff and volunteers.
• Ensure documentation for surveys and audits.
• Prepare for and participate in NYS DOH surveys.
• Maintain infection control and safety policy compliance.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Recreation Director to lead our Activities Department in our skilled nursing facility located in the Bronx, NY. The Recreation Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program in compliance with New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) regulations and federal guidelines.

The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, creative, and experienced in long-term care.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program that meets NYS DOH and CMS regulations

• Complete MDS sections related to activities and participate in care plan meetings

• Conduct resident assessments and develop individualized activity care plans

• Create and post monthly activity calendars

• Plan and supervise group programs, 1:1 activities, community outings, and special events

• Manage department budget and maintain activity supplies

• Supervise, train, and schedule recreation staff and volunteers

• Ensure appropriate documentation for surveys and audits

• Prepare for and participate in Department of Health surveys

• Maintain compliance with infection control and safety policies
