Pay Range: $20.72 - $27.97 Per Hour Range Explanation: Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Pima County Parks & Recreation is seeking a Recreation Coordinator II to join our team in Ajo, AZ. This role is responsible for coordinating activities in a specialized recreational area and develop programs that meet the needs of the community. Program areas may include recreation, aquatics, and special events. The Recreation Coordinator II differs from the Recreation Coordinator I in the complexity of tasks, program developmental responsibilities, and level of leadership required.

This position is located in Ajo, Arizona - 120 miles west of Tucson, AZ.

Qualified Tasks

Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

Assist in developing and coordinating recreation and/or aquatic programs; Provide direction in one or more specialized recreation or aquatic areas such as visual, performing, or literary arts, humanities, historical and natural interpretation, community design, social programming, sports programming, certification trainings, and special events; Maintain close liaison with community and provide information about recreation policies; Organize and develop programs based on community interests, needs, and resources identified through public contact, research, and other means; Direct the organization and conduct of community meetings and provide direction in developing classes, workshops, clubs, certification trainings, and special events; Assist in evaluation of programs and facility operations and make appropriate recommendations; Participate in recreation employee selection; Assist in identification of grant funds and in preparation of applications; Maintain records and prepare reports as needed by the department. Prepare brochures, advertisements, flyers, and informational materials related to offered programs/activities; Collect money, issue receipts, and prepare and make bank deposits. Some positions may require participation in front line programming and/or lifeguarding to ensure safety and service at recreation or aquatic facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of recreation related experience. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) OR: Six months with Pima County as a Recreation Coordinator I, Lifeguard III, or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Preferred Qualifications

Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing recreation programs and special events.

Experience with/knowledge of popular sports, fundamental skills, and rules.

Experience in a lead worker position directing the workflows of employees and/or volunteers.

Selection Procedure

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. CPR/AED/First Aid required within two months of hire date. A National Fitness certification may be required for some positions within first six months of hire date. Some positions may require obtaining Lifeguarding and Swimming Lesson Instructor certification within nine months of appointment, and Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer certification within 18 months of appointment.

Special Notice Items

The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. This position will require a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Physical and sensory requirements will be determined by position. Action Activity - bending; Motion Activity - simple and firm grasping and fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, on a radio and behind themselves; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone and on a radio; Vision - distinguish colors, have depth perception and peripheral vision. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
