Job description

The Deer Park Community Residence Facility (Deer Park CR) is a trauma-informed therapeutic program providing intensive residential mental health services outside of a hospital setting. It supports youth in strengthening family connections and improving outcomes through a youth-guided, family-driven, and trauma-sensitive approach. The 24-hour facility offers therapeutic, mental health, medical, recreational, and independent living supports, with individualized treatment plans tailored to each youth. The environment promotes safety, sensitivity, and healing, allowing clients to address trauma while learning emotional regulation and self-care strategies.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop therapeutic recreation activities.
2. Complete initial recreational assessment within 4 weeks of admission and every 3 months thereafter.
3. Maintain monthly recreation notes for each resident, ensuring services align with the current plan.
4. Coordinate leisure and pro-social activities.
5. Develop, oversee, and participate in recreational activities.
6. Plan and coordinate resident participation projects as part of their service plan.
7. Coordinate recreation activities with CR staff.
8. Lead and interpret the recreation program to staff, interns, and volunteers.
9. Connect residents with community recreation programs.
10. Order supplies and equipment with prior approval.
11. Develop individual and group leisure goals for residents, collaborating with staff.
12. Establish community linkages for recreational activities.
13. Attend in-service training as needed.
14. Serve as a link between weekday and weekend staff, including working weekends.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

II. QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy and experience with mentally ill children and adolescents.
• Clearance checks for State Central Register, driver’s license, and fingerprinting as required.
• Compliance with health regulations for testing.
• Attending NCI certification/re-certification class and passing the test is a minimum employment requirement.
