Job description

Job Overview:

Under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist or Recreational Therapist, plans and implements diversional recreation services to assist with alleviating the effects of hospitalization and/or improve quality of life. Maintains program areas and supplies.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Previous work experience with children with special needs or children in general
  • Ability to plan activities and adapt to various environments to accommodate disabling conditions
  • Tact, enthusiasm, initiative, and judgment in performance of duties
  • Flexibility regarding scheduled hours to meet patient needs

Preferred:

  • Higher Education
  • Experience working with challenging behaviors
Certifications and Licenses:
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification
  • Valid Driver's License
Scheduling Requirements:
  • Per Diem
  • Day shift
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of developmental and diagnosis considerations and applies it in daily practice
  • Cleans departmental equipment and organizes closets as per competency expectations, following established timelines, and takes initiative to organize and clean other areas as needed
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment, ordering supplies accurately and timely
  • Assists staff in planning and implementing therapy groups, special events, and community trips
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff
  • Supervises volunteers and community groups according to hospital policy
  • Assesses and evaluates patient functioning to determine appropriate activities and adaptations
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on departmental needs
  • Maintains a safe environment for patient care activities
  • Completes required documentation in LTC programs on the day of service
  • Implements diversional activities for various ages and abilities
