Job description

This position is for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) at Fort Drum, New York. FMWR includes Child and Youth Services, Business Recreation, and Support Services, which enable Soldier readiness, support the resiliency and well-being of Soldiers and Families.

Duties

  • Instructs groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs, such as rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking.
  • Uses a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to participants who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.
  • Incumbent is responsible for group management and the safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.

Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with Army Regulation 215-3.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an American Red Cross First Aid training certification upon employment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an American Red Cross CPR/AED training certification upon employment.
  • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
  • Must be willing to accept intermittent, on-call employment.
  • Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or unique events.

Qualifications

  • experience within an Outdoor Recreation program that offered some of the following areas:
    • paddling activities,
    • canoeing,
    • rock climbing,
    • hiking,
    • mountain biking
