Commander, Navy Region Hawaii seeks a Recreation Program Assistant to support the MWR community recreation program at Liberty in Paradise, JBPHH, Honolulu. You will provide front-line customer service to patrons, assist with planning and running leisure activities, and help maintain records and reports.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree in recreation or marketing and at least two years of related recreation experience, plus strong communication and organizational skills.

Job description

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Programs (N922) Branch; Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services (N94); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), Honolulu, HI. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service to patrons as well as to perform a variety of duties in support of the MWR community recreation program; located at Liberty in Paradise.

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate possess the following: Knowledge gained through relevant education and training (i.e., Associates Degree in Recreation, Marketing or closely related field) and/or two years equivalent recreation work experience. Combination of experience related to customer service and or recreation activity-based functions. Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities. Must be able to work independently, make sound decisions and have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities. Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and the entire scope of Community Recreation activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests. Knowledge is required of the functions, procedures, and operations of recreation activities. Incumbent is C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively) trained, holds an Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification, and holds a current Food Handler certification, or be able to obtain these trainings/certifications within 90 days of employment. Must have strong customer service skills. Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics for dissemination to customers. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of computers, office procedures and print production. Employee is required to have a valid state drivers' license. Able to obtain license validation to transport patrons off-base within 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands

Work may require considerable physical exertion while instructing or guiding participants in a variety of activities. Work may require sitting, walking, long periods of standing, bending and lifting of moderate heavy items up to 40 pounds, occasionally required to lift heavier items. Work may require lifting items such as papers, books, rental equipment, and athletic equipment. Work may require working outside for special events or leading outdoor outings or group trips. Position may require irregular working hours. Incumbent may be required to work evenings and weekends.

Work Environment

Work performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. Administrative work performed in an office setting, which has adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. Incumbent may be required to work early, late, and on weekends and holidays when the need arises. Incumbent is subject to recall regularly. Incumbent wears protective clothing and equipment as situations warrant. *** Must be willing to work weekend, nights and holidays***
