Job description

This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth Swimming Pools.

This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Management has the right to assign staff to locations as missions require.

Duties
  • Assist with the operation of the pool, oversee the work of assigned lifeguards, and monitor compliance with facility policies. Assist with scheduling of employees.
  • Assist with the operation of the pool, its filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry, and perform water tests. Under the direction of the pool supervisor, employ safety rules for the protection of the guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatic facility. Rescue swimmers and administer first aid as required. Assist in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to tC21-21.
  • Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed. Ensure that the pool and area are clean and free from any hazards. Provide information to swimmers regarding safety rules and procedures.
  • Tactfully warn patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules and follow facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assist in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.
  • Issue towels and check identification as required. Maintain daily logs and records as required. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Appointment subject to favorable suitability determination.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Childcare Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, freedom from communicable disease IAW current Army standards.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and the ability to lift and carry 40lbs.
  • In case of exposure to infectious disease, the incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • The incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
  • Work hours may involve weekends, weekdays, holidays, and night duty.
  • Must be willing to accept a Flexible appointment.
Qualifications

Must possess the following certificates:

  • American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e. Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification).
  • American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e. Ellis & Associates (CPR) Certification).
  • American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e. Ellis & Associates AED certification).

Certifications or proof of enrollment must be uploaded with your application packet!

Highly Preferred:
At least one (1) year experience as a Lifeguard.
