Job summary

Eckerd Connects is seeking a Recreation Assistant who will play a vital role in mentoring at-risk youth through various recreational activities at our Job Corps center. The position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in young people's lives while ensuring that all recreation programs comply with DOL requirements. Candidates should have an Associates of Arts degree or relevant experience with youth, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Position

Hourly Rate: $17.20

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Recreation Assistant reports to the Recreation, Fitness and Health Supervisor and is an hourly, non-exempt position.
  • The Recreation Assistant organizes and directs trainees in leisure- time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs.
  • Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning. At times, may drive the students on trips/events.
  • The Recreation Assistant assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons} and CIS documentation- if applicable.
  • May provide instructions to trainees in various recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, etc., and other creative activities, such as arts and crafts.
  • Mentor studentsinRecreationAideProgram to help establish life skills.
  • Ensures that all programs comply with DOL requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Associates of Arts degree or one (1) year of related experience working with youth.
  • Preferexperienceinarecreation/non-vocationalprogram.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
  • Validdriver'slicenseinthestateofemploymentwithanacceptabledrivingrecord.
  • Prefer a CDL with passenger transport endorsement.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.

Additional Requirements:Knowledge of a variety of recreation/non-vocational activities. Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to the trainee population. Ability to inspire and motivate trainees. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, an individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
