Job summary

Richmond Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Staten Island, NY seeks a Recreation Aide to support residents in the Neuro Behavioral Program. You will lead a variety of activities, from games and crafts to life-skills prep, in group and individual settings, helping residents stay engaged and safe.

Evening hours and weekends required; prior experience preferred but training provided. Must have a high school diploma and strong English skills; empathy, creativity, and the ability to adapt

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to plan and lead activities meeting residents’ needs/interests.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Ability to deal tactfully with residents with cognitive, mental, neurological disabilities and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of diversional activities such as games, discussion, art/crafts, computer, etc. for residents in group and individual settings.
• Prepare room and use equipment for recreational activities; restore room after activity.
• Store and maintain all equipment and supplies.
• Decorate for seasonal holidays and events/activities.
• Contribute ideas for recreational programming.
• Assist in adapting activities to meet residents’ needs.
• Transport/escort residents to and from activities.
• Escort/transport residents to trips and community outings as per policies.
• Document residents’ participation in records and other required documentation.
