Job description

Position: Recovery Supervisor (Suffolk County Jail Project)

Department: Psychiatry

Schedule: Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Recovery Supervisor will serve as a core member of the treatment team within a new, 45-bed men's behavioral health unit operated by Boston Medical Center (BMC) located in the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department's (SCSD) Jail. In collaboration with Clinical and Administrative leadership, this role will help ensure the smooth provision of intensive substance use services to incarcerated persons. As part of the leadership team, this role will directly supervise all recovery staff including SUD counselor, recovery coach, and recovery specialists. This individual will also oversee the use of evidenced based substance use treatment on the unit, ensuring interventions are tailored for this specific patient population. This role requires practicing non-judgmental patient centered care and cultural humility in order to care for an impacted patient population who is often marginalized within the healthcare and justice systems. Experience within corrections is not required, as the goal of this program is to deliver community level and quality of treatment inside the jail.

As part of this innovative new collaboration between BMC and SCSD, this role will report into the Dept. of Psychiatry, directly to the program's Clinical Director. Work will be completed within office and clinical settings, both housed within a setting of incarceration. This is a full time position with preference for an individual who can work evenings and/or Saturdays and have flexibility in schedule. The person who fills this position must adhere to all of BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:


  • Master's degree in behavioral health field preferred

  • Will consider bachelor's degree with 5+ years experience in the addictions field

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Preference for LADC I or II, preference individual certified to supervise Certified Addiction Recovery Coaches (CARC).

EXPERIENCE:


  • Over five years of experience working in addiction treatment

  • Preference for experience working with individuals with dual diagnosis and justice-involvement

  • Preference for 2+ years experience supervising staff

  • Lived experience is valued

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and interdisciplinary team

  • Comprehensive knowledge of addiction including biology, diagnostics, and treatment landscape

  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building skills; ability to mentor, guide and motivate colleagues through demonstration of best practices and leading by example.

  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and produce expected results.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner with healthcare providers, patients and families, general public, staff members, external agencies, and other organizational leaders.

  • Ability to work independently and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.

  • Proficient oral and written English communication skills.

  • Bi-lingual and/or bi-cultural candidates preferred

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office suite experience (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)

  • Experience using an electronic health record preferred

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Leverage addiction expertise to ensure the provision of evidenced based substance use disorder treatment on the unit, which is tailored for patient population of pre-trial detained men.

  • As part of the leadership team within the program, operationalizes the core values of BMC by promoting patient centered care, diversity, equity and inclusion among staff and patients.

  • Coordinates interdisciplinary collaboration to drive patient outcomes and the achievement of key performance indicators, Interviews, hires, trains, supervise, evaluate performance and disciplines as necessary recovery staff on the unit including drug and alcohol counselor, recovery coach, and recovery specialists, Seeks feedback, evaluation, and guidance from other leadership as appropriate and according to established personnel policies and procedures.

  • Sets performance metrics for assigned staff and holds staff accountable.

  • Initiates timely and appropriate management interventions inclusive of coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline for the clinical staff.

  • Assigns specific duties to recovery staff in accordance with their position description, education and training

  • Communicates departmental goals to the recovery staff and fosters a work environment that motivates employees to achieve these goals.

  • Lead addiction focused training and continuing education for staff of all disciplines.

  • Participate in direct patient care as indicated, such as leading or co-leading recovery groups.
