Job summary

River Valley Behavioral Health is seeking a Recovery Specialist to provide direct care and supervision for adults in a residential substance use treatment setting. You will monitor stability, assist with daily routines, and contribute to a supportive, trauma-informed milieu.

Collaborating with clinicians, nurses, and peer support staff, you will document status changes and communicate effectively while maintaining safety and compliance with policies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience in residential, crisis, healthcare, or direct-care settings preferred.
  • Able to observe, document, and communicate client status effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; works well in a team.
  • Able to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision to adults in residential treatment to ensure safety and stability.
  • Monitor clients’ physical, emotional, and behavioral status and report changes promptly.
  • Foster a calm, trauma-informed milieu and collaborate with the treatment team.
  • Assist with daily routines, activities, and wellness initiatives as assigned.
  • Complete admissions, orientations, and required documentation accurately.
  • Support meal service, sanitation, and facility cleanliness.
  • Participate in shift handoffs, meetings, training, and supervision.
  • Perform other duties to support program operations and client care.

The Recovery Specialist provides direct care and support services to adults receiving crisis stabilization services in residential substance use treatment. This role focuses on monitoring client safety, physical and mental status, and daily functioning while supporting program operations and maintaining a therapeutic milieu. The Recovery Specialist works closely with clinical, nursing, and peer support staff to ensure safe, coordinated, and recovery-oriented care.Why Join Our Team?Competitive payComprehensive health, dental, vision, and Telehealth benefitsPaid time off plus 9 paid holidaysRetirement plan optionsTuition reimbursement and free CEUsClinical supervision and professional developmentWellness and Employee Assistance ProgramsMileage reimbursement for work-related travelPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligible employerEssential Functions:Provide direct care and supervision to adults residing in residential substance use treatment to ensure safety, stability, and adherence to program expectations.Monitor and observe clients’ physical, emotional, and behavioral status throughout shifts, identifying changes in presentation, mood, behavior, or functioning.Promptly report changes in client condition, safety concerns, or behavioral observations to the treatment team in accordance with established protocols.Support the therapeutic milieu by fostering a calm, respectful, structured, and trauma-informed environment.Assist clients with daily routines and scheduled activities, including groups, personal care, leisure activities, and wellness activities as assigned.Complete admission and discharge processes, including orientation to the facility, review of rules and expectations, and completion of required documentation.Assist with meal preparation, meal service, and cleanup for clients and staff in accordance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.Maintain facility cleanliness, organization, and safety, including monitoring common areas as required.Support de-escalation efforts using approved techniques and follow safety protocols during behavioral or crisis situations.Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment team members, including clinicians, nurses, peer support specialists, and supervisors, to support coordinated care.Accurately and timely complete required documentation, logs, and reports in compliance with RiverValley Behavioral Health policies and regulatory standards.Participate in shift handoffs, staff meetings, training, and supervision as required.Perform other duties as assigned, as necessary to support program operations and client care.Education and Experience:High School diploma or GEDValid driver’s licenseExperience working in residential, crisis, healthcare, or direct care settings preferredAbility to observe, document, and communicate client status effectivelyStrong interpersonal, teamwork, and problem-solving skillsAbility to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situationsBasic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation
