Job summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Howard University College of Medicine is recruiting Recovery Guides to support patients with opioid use disorder. This paid, part-time role involves educating patients on MOUD, harm reduction, and recovery planning, coordinating with addiction medicine specialists, and documenting progress under supervision.

Recovery Guides will undergo training before interacting with patients and will contribute to a 1–2 year program aimed at improving

Qualifications

• Experience working with persons with opioid use disorder (OUD).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to manage a caseload of up to 8–10 participants (half-time).
• Computer literacy to maintain records and use Zoom; upload documents.
• Ability to document activities in progress notes.
• Understanding impact of structural/social determinants on participants.

Responsibilities

• Provide manual-guided Recovery Guiding to participants in BT-MOUD.
• Follow Recovery Guiding manual and training requirements.
• Complete initial training; receive supervision.
• Educate participants on OUD, MOUD, harm reduction, and behavioral change.
• Develop and implement Recovery Plan Agreements with participants.
• Monitor progress and adapt plans to increase success.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Participate in ongoing Recovery Guiding training and supervision.
• Document all Recovery Guiding sessions and required records.
