Job summary

Wisconsin Community Services in Milwaukee seeks a Peer Specialist to support individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health needs. You will work with treatment providers, aim to meet goals in treatment plans, and support recovery through weekly meetings and advocacy.

You will document interactions, assist with access to services, coordinate transportation, and promote a strength-based, confidential environment in all settings.

Qualifications

• High school or GED; graduate of state Certified Peer Specialist training.
• Minimum 1 year experience serving individuals with substance use/mental health needs.
• Valid driver's license, automobile, and sufficient insurance for agency requirements.
• Current Certified Peer Specialist certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Engage people through strength-based, trauma-informed, person-centered and culturally intelligent approaches.
• Provide comprehensive care to meet treatment plan needs, including housing, legal, financial, and social supports.
• Document all interactions in the electronic medical record.
• Facilitate Brief Addiction Monitor (BAM) assessments at enrollment and disenrollment.
• Maintain confidentiality in all communications.
• Link individuals to self-determined supports and services (case management, psychiatry, therapy, groups).
• Provide transportation and attend appointments with the person.
• Conduct a minimum of four contacts per month, ideally weekly face-to-face.
• Deliver 1:1 peer support in community and home settings.
