Job summary

Hartford HealthCare’s Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT seeks a Recreation Therapist to collaborate with the IP Psychiatry Patient Care Team to provide recovery-based recreation therapy for adults and children with behavioral health needs.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field; NCTRC certification preferred.
• Two or more years of child and/or adolescent experience.
• NCTRC certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements daily recreation therapy interventions and activities aligned with care plans.
• Completes recreation therapy assessments meeting Unit/DPH/CMS guidelines.
• Documents group and individual services to meet licensing and internal policies.
• Develops and monitors weekday, weekend and holiday activities; trains staff involved in therapy.
• Participates in clinical care planning meetings; records goals in care plans.
• Supports quality and safety initiatives; liaises with BHN Recreation Therapy colleagues.
• Provides therapy support across departments when needed during surges or staffing gaps.
• Trains and supervises recreation therapy interns under Nursing leadership.

Education

Associate’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies or related program

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or Recreation and Leisure Studies or related program; NCTRC preferred
