Job summary

Alpharus Health, a national nonprofit behavioral health provider, seeks a Substance Use Counselor in Polk City, FL to support individuals on their path to healthier lives. The role involves client interviews, treatment assessment, and delivering evidence-based counseling within a supervised framework.

You will conduct group and individual sessions, develop tailored goals, and ensure documentation and discharge planning align with contractual requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree with at least 6 months of professional experience in substance use counseling and/or mental health counseling.
• PhD degree requires 1 year of experience if degree not in a related field.
• Associate degree requires at least 4 years of professional experience in substance use counseling and/or mental health counseling.
• High School diploma/GED requires 6 years of experience.
• Florida certifications for addiction counseling (CAP, CCJAP, CAC) meet criteria.

Responsibilities

• Conducts client interviews to review substance use disorder and treatment history.
• Evaluates client response to treatment and updates the treatment plan and caseload with individualized goals.
• Provides basic didactic group counseling, psychoeducation, drug education and family education to support peer engagement.
• Provides individual counseling and educational programs addressing relapse prevention and pro-social changes.
• Under supervision, carries caseload per state and contract requirements.
• Collaborates with clients to develop discharge summaries and aftercare plans for supervisor approval.
• Coordinates required services to resolve emergencies and support recovery.
• Maintains treatment records to ensure compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
