Overall Summary:

Under general supervision, the Reconstruction Technician/Carpenter is responsible for producing good quality design, construction and repair by meeting or exceeding accepted industry standards. Technicians/carpenters must recognize that they are representatives of the company and must conduct themselves in a professional, courteous manner and follow and/or enforce stated company policies and procedures. Please note that as a 24/7/365 operation, all technicians participate in an on-call rotation to support emergencies and on-going projects. This includes emergency board ups and tarps. He or she is supervised by the Project Manager the job s under and ultimately reports to the Director of Operations.

Specific areas of responsibility include (but are not limited to):

Maintain proper safety protocols as set by OSHA on all job sites (e.g., safety vests, goggles, steel-toed shoes.) This includes ensuring proper use of equipment and maintaining a safe and compliant construction area.

Ensure compliance with plans, specifications and procedures as required to complete the project in a timely and quality manner.

Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick. Installs and repairs roofs.

Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates and services equipment used in the performance of duties.

Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements and reports back to supervisor.

Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and the construction schedules are adhered to.

Recognize and select appropriate lumber types and grades.

Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.

Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.

Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saw.

Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.

Emergency service for board ups and tarps.

Helps to obtain Completion of Satisfaction (COS) at the completion of the job.

Job Specifications:

5 plus years of construction/carpentry experience preferred.

Experience in other related restoration services is a plus.

Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry settings.

Knowledge of building and safety code requirements, methods and practices in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment.

High school or GED equivalency preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Typical work shifts are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, overtime may be required to meet project deadlines and to properly serve emergency events which occur on a 24/7 basis. This position is part of an after-hours on-call rotation with schedules being published at least monthly.

Work environments can vary depending upon the type of emergency situation is involved. Generally, work environments may be dirty, dusty, damp, wet, or smoke filled. Some positions involve trauma/biohazard cleanup. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided in hazardous environments.

Manual dexterity needed to perform tasks as well as an ability to lift goods (up to 50 pounds) or materials with or without assistance per OSHA guidelines. Lifting, bending, stretching, climbing stairs, crawling are common activities associated with this position. Use of scaffolding and use of common tools (e.g., hammers, drills, saws).

Use of eye and face protection devices such as masks and respirators common.

Use of information technology may apply such as use of cell phones, email or labor reporting software.
