Job description

Reconstruction Superintendent

Department: Reconstruction
Reports To: Reconstruction Operations Manager / General Manager
Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Reconstruction Superintendent is a field-based support role for Reconstruction Project Managers, helping keep projects moving efficiently from initial site visit through final completion. This position serves as the PM's boots on the ground—supporting estimating and documentation, getting subcontractors started, monitoring work in progress, addressing field issues, and assisting with final punch lists.

The Superintendent is expected to maintain a strong field presence, communicate proactively with Project Managers, subcontractors, and customers, and help ensure work is completed according to scope, schedule, quality standards, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction & Project Start
  • Conduct site visits as requested by Project Managers.
  • Complete DocuSketch scans and field documentation to support estimating and scope development.
  • Meet with new customers to obtain Work Authorizations and other required project documentation.
  • Assist PMs with identifying field conditions, measurements, scope considerations, and potential issues before work begins.
  • Help coordinate project startup and ensure subcontractors understand the approved scope of work.
  • Meet subcontractors on site to get jobs started, review expectations, and answer field-related questions.
Field & Subcontractor Support
  • Serve as the primary field support resource for Project Managers.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress.
  • Verify subcontractor work is progressing according to the approved scope, schedule, and expected quality standards.
  • Communicate job progress, delays, change conditions, customer concerns, and subcontractor issues to the Project Manager.
  • Help resolve routine field issues while escalating scope, pricing, scheduling, or customer concerns to the PM when necessary.
  • Reinforce jobsite cleanliness, safety, professionalism, and protection of the customer's property.
  • Take progress photos and maintain appropriate field documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating subcontractors, materials, and jobsite access as needed.
Project Completion
  • Conduct or assist with final walkthroughs and punch lists as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure punch-list items and corrections are completed promptly.
  • Verify completed work meets company quality standards and the approved scope.
  • Complete final DocuSketch scans and documentation as required.
  • Help ensure projects are physically complete and ready for PM closeout.
Customer Service & Communication
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with homeowners, subcontractors, vendors, and team members.
  • Provide customers with appropriate field updates while keeping the Project Manager informed.
  • Avoid making unauthorized commitments regarding scope, pricing, insurance coverage, or change orders.
  • Represent SERVPRO professionally on every jobsite.
Qualifications
  • Experience in residential or commercial construction, restoration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, trades, and jobsite operations.
  • Ability to identify workmanship and scope issues in the field.
  • Comfortable working directly with subcontractors and homeowners.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple active jobs and priorities.
  • Comfortable using technology for DocuSketch, photos, documentation, and project communication.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Success in This Role

A successful Reconstruction Superintendent keeps the field side of projects moving so Project Managers can effectively manage the overall job, customer, financials, and schedule. Success is measured by strong field communication, timely project starts, consistent jobsite monitoring, quality subcontractor work, accurate documentation, and efficient completion of punch-list items.

This role does not replace the Project Manager's ownership of the project. Rather, the Superintendent provides consistent field execution and support to help PMs manage more projects effectively while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
