PAY RATE: $16.30 - $19.56 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, donors, volunteers, and staff at The Salvation Army. This position is responsible for providing professional customer service, assisting with front desk operations, answering and directing phone calls, greeting guests, and assisting with administrative tasks. The Receptionist helps create a welcoming and respectful environment while supporting the organization's mission of serving individuals and families in need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide administrative support to the Corps Officer(s) as related to business of the front desk and food pantry services.
  • Warmly greet, answer and provide referrals as appropriate to guests and callers.
  • Receive donations that come in the front door and make sure they are distributed to the correct department.
  • Receive and organize postal items.
  • Assist with the Food Pantry management and distribution to those we serve with kindness and respect.
  • Assess the basic social service needs of participants in order to direct them accordingly.
  • Maintain and manage food pantry database and forms necessary for reporting.
  • Know what is on all three calendars for the day, Social service, Corps and Community Center.
  • Ability to work with front desk and pantry volunteers to help recruit, schedule and train them in the process of the front desk.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to the administrative support.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Significant experience may be considered in lieu of.

Experience:

Two years plus of experience in a receptionist, front desk, customer service or administrative support role preferred. Entry level candidates with strong customer service skills may also be considered.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.

  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.

  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.
JOB LIMITATIONS
  • This individual will only commit resources of The Salvation Army that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the designated Supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position may be required to do light to moderate physical work. Sometimes heavier.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment including a PC and potentially make public presentations/interactions.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to moderate noise level.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • This position reports to the Corps Officer(s).
  • In context related to this position’s duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he/she will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

An evaluation of how effective service is provided. Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.

  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
