Scope of Position

The Reception Resource Navigator serves as the central point of contact for all incoming calls, walk-in clients, donors, vendors, and community partners. The individual will provide trauma-informed resource navigation, professional reception services, and administrative support. They will ensure that every interaction, whether by phone or in person—is met with dignity, clarity, and efficiency, while maintaining a deep understanding of internal programs and external community resources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Must demonstrate a passion for and be familiar with The Salvation Army’s mission; must represent the ideals of The Salvation Army in every aspect of the employee’s work.
  • Greet all visitors with professionalism and warmth, ensuring a welcoming environment.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that is busy and must be able to work despite interruptions and surrounding activities. Will be responsible to manage a variety of projects at any given time.
  • The ability to maintain self-motivation and keep on task.

  • This work entails all demographics and all socioeconomic backgrounds. You must be prepared to interact with fellow staff, donors, clients both houseless and housed, granters, community partners and others during your day.
  • The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer equipment, tablets, fax/copy machine, and 10-key calculator. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds will occur.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must regularly exercise discretion and judgment with the employee’s personal contacts and approach to each individual or family. Resource Navigation entails having contact with anyone in need, and if there is a conflict of interest you need to remove yourself and notify your supervisor immediately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • It is the responsibility of each employee of The Salvation Army, Medford Citadel Corps, to reach out to people, without discrimination, in the name of The Salvation Army, helping to build whole people- spirit, soul and body!
  • Answer and direct all incoming calls to appropriate departments or external agencies.
  • Maintain a calm and organized front desk, managing high-traffic interactions with grace.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of local service providers (housing, food, recovery, employment, etc.). Familiarity with local social services and community resources.
  • Maintain current referral resource list, in conjunction with the Outreach Coordinators, and provide to all TSA sites as referral options to other programs.
  • Provide printed or digital resource guides and assist clients in understanding next steps.
  • Collaborate with case managers to ensure continuity of care for referred individuals.
  • Receive donations with gratitude and ensure proper documentation and routing.
  • Direct vendors to appropriate staff or service areas, ensuring smooth operational flow.
  • Support emergency protocols and contingency plans, including communication roles during crises.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with trauma-informed sensitivity.
  • Conduct a brief needs assessment for walk-in clients to determine appropriate internal or external referrals. Provide clients with referral to public and private service providers in Jackson County, and to internal TSA resources as they qualify.
  • Aid clients in finding appropriate transportation options, i.e., public transit, cabs, ride-share options, etc.
  • The employee will be responsible for inputting client information into online statistical programs.
  • Maintain client documentation in an orderly manner, updating the register, interview schedules and statistical records on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain computer records as prescribed by The Salvation Army policy, grantor, and directed by your supervisor.
  • Assist with office tasks assigned by Corps Officers or Business Administration Director, such as printing, emailing, filing, phone calls, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time operating a keyboard and phone. Ability to stand and/or be physically active for up to two hours or more at a time. Must be able to walk, run, reach, and grasp with hands and arms, lift bend, and stoop. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to twenty-five pounds.

Working Conditions

Works in an office environment with frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines, and competing priorities. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds. Work environment includes managing projects with conflicting requirements and tight deadlines.

The dress code of the Reception Resource Navigator position is business casual. The Salvation Army holds a high standard for professionalism, and the dress code for employees is no exception.
