Job summary

Simmonds Precision Products is seeking a detail-oriented Receiving Inspector I to join our Quality Assurance team in Vermont. You will inspect incoming aerospace parts, materials, components, and documentation to ensure they meet engineering, PO, and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow procedures. Prior aerospace experience and familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years in quality inspection; aerospace preferred.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, specs, and POs.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001.
  • Experience with CMMs or advanced inspection equipment.
  • Formal inspection or quality training/certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving inspection of aerospace parts and materials per orders and drawings.
  • Verify part numbers, revisions, quantities, lot and serial numbers.
  • Inspect materials for dimensional accuracy and workmanship.
  • Review certificates of conformance and supplier documentation for accuracy.
  • Record inspection results in ERP/quality system.
  • Identify nonconforming material and support disposition.
  • Maintain inspection records and traceability.
  • Communicate issues across Quality, Purchasing, and Manufacturing.
  • Follow aerospace quality procedures and safety requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and quality-focused Receiving Inspectorto join our Quality Assurance team. The Receiving Inspector I is responsible for inspecting incoming aerospace parts, materials, components, and documentation to ensure they meet specified engineering, purchase order, and quality requirements.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is interested in building a career in aerospace quality and inspection. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, good organizational skills, and a commitment to product quality and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving inspection of aerospace parts, materials, components, and assemblies in accordance with purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and applicable quality procedures.
  • Verify part numbers, revisions, quantities, lot numbers, serial numbers, and other identifying information.
  • Inspect incoming materials for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, damage, contamination, and other specified requirements.
  • Review certificates of conformance, material certifications, test reports, and other supplier documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Use basic inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales, and other measuring tools as required.
  • Accurately record inspection results in the company's quality or ERP system.
  • Identify and document nonconforming material and assist with material segregation and disposition processes.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and traceability documentation.
  • Communicate quality issues and discrepancies to Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and other appropriate departments.
  • Follow established procedures, work instructions, safety requirements, and applicable aerospace quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled inspection area.
  • Support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, receiving inspection, or a related field; aerospace experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Basic understanding of measurement and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to use common inspection tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to accurately enter and retrieve information from electronic systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Previous aerospace, aviation, defense, or precision manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Experience using an ERP, MRP, or quality management system.
  • Experience interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Formal inspection or quality training/certification.
  • Experience with CMMs or other advanced inspection equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift/move materials as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work with small components and perform visual inspections requiring close attention to detail.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
