Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Baton Rouge seeks an estimator to manage bid processes and coordinate with the sales team. You will perform rebar material takeoffs, communicate project scopes clearly, and ensure bids align with schedules and client needs.

The role requires 1-2 years’ AutoCAD/blueprint experience, strong math and technical writing skills, and the ability to work independently while thriving in a team setting. Growth opportunities and a competitive compensation package are offered.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience and/or knowledge with AutoCAD and reading blueprints.
• Strong mathematical skills and technical writing abilities are required.
• Experience in drafting/estimating and placing/sales of fabricated rebar is a plus.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively communicate with customers and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Manage the bid process and coordinate with the responsible salesman.
• Perform rebar material takeoffs and interpret scope of work.
• Prepare estimates, bid schedules, and takeoffs; draft preliminary scope letters and bid forms.
• Provide general support to ensure bids meet schedules and requirements.

What You'll Do

• Responsible for the Bid Process and Coordinating with Responsible Salesman
• Performs rebar material takeoffs
• Understands the scope of work and accurately communicates the information to sales
• Prepares Estimate, bid schedules and perform Takeoff while preparing and sending preliminary scope letters, bid forms and documents to meet bid schedules
• Other duties as assigned in general support of the organization

What You'll Need

• 1 - 2 years previous experience and/or knowledge with AutoCAD and reading blueprints
• Strong Mathematical skills and technical writing skills required
• Experience in either or all of drafting/estimating and placing/sales of fabricated rebar is a plus
• Ability to deal with uncertainty and work under minimal supervision required
• Decision-making abilities with excellent customer service and both verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage time required
• Ability to be flexible, a team player and interact professionally with employees as well as external contacts
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to follow directions and work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Ability to work overtime as necessary outside of normally scheduled shift with little or no advance notification

Your Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business preferred
