Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in Lidar, Laser Scanning, and Modeling.
  • FAA Part 107 Drone License required.
  • Knowledge of VDC workflows and MEP+ processes is a plus.

Join to apply for the Reality Capture Technician role at Wightman

This position involves collecting data and point clouds using various methods such as drones, scanners, 3D cameras, and mobile LIDAR. Responsibilities include downloading, processing, compiling, registration, and producing deliverables with different tools and software. The role also entails QA/QC of data, drafting, report preparation, research, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of final outputs. Field visits, including equipment loading, setup, and demobilization, are also required.

Essential Functions
  • Perform production activities involving field and office components, including travel and QA/QC of final deliverables.
  • Set up projects, coordinate scheduling, and address safety and accessibility concerns.
  • Train field staff on equipment like Trimble X9 scanner, DJI drones, and sensors, and office staff on processing scan data.
  • Coordinate with Survey, Engineering, Architecture, and GIS departments to incorporate reality capture technology.
  • Recruit staff as the Reality Capture Department expands.
  • Conduct laser scanning and 360 photogrammetry at project sites.
  • Process data to create 3D models and point clouds using specialized software.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate data into workflows.
  • Ensure data quality and accuracy through QA/QC.
  • Plan site visits, adhering to safety protocols, including physical activities.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Support development of workflows for MEP+ projects.
  • Assist in managing Robotic Total Stations and support design and fabrication tasks.
  • Travel to job sites as needed; flexible working hours may be required.
Required Skills & Behaviors
  • Proficiency in Trimble Business Center, MicroStation, Topo Dot, Pix4D, AutoCAD, Revit, Edgewise, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical activities like climbing, lifting, walking, and handling materials.
  • Work in various weather conditions.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods; lift up to 50 pounds.
Organizational Relationships
  • Report to the Reality Capture Manager.
Required Education/Experience
  • Associates Degree in Drafting and Design or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Lidar, Laser Scanning, and Modeling.
  • FAA Part 107 Drone License.
  • Experience with reality capture techniques and processing software.
  • Knowledge of VDC workflows and MEP+ processes is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to perform site activities and operate equipment.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Photogrammetry, GIS, or related field.
  • GPR or SUE training preferred.
Travel
  • Approximately 50% regional and local travel.
