Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Online Software Group. This role develops and maintains real-time software that configures and controls the VLA, VLBA, and GBT, turning scientific observing parameters into hardware and DSP configurations.

The position is based in multiple locations (Albuquerque/Socorro, NM; Charlottesville, VA; Green Bank, WV) with possible remote arrangements for well-qualified candidates, and involves

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• One or more years of software development experience.
• Experience with radio astronomy software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain components of the online software for real-time telescope control.
• Extend the translation layer from observing parameters to hardware and DSP configurations.
• Model the observing domain in software and enforce rules and constraints.
