Job summary

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks a Research Staff Scientist assigned to the DIII-D fusion facility in San Diego, California. The role focuses on advancing real-time plasma exhaust monitoring and control, using physics-based and AI state estimation, and integrating high-resolution diagnostics into the Plasma Control System (PCS).

The candidate will lead experimental campaigns across DIII-D, KSTAR, and other devices while disseminating results through talks, posters, and publications.

Qualifications

  • PhD in plasma physics or related field is required.
  • Experience with real-time diagnostics, PCS applications, data streaming, and AI/ML for real-time control is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and English communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy real-time feedback-control capabilities for DIII-D plasma exhaust control.
  • Implement diagnostics and control applications within the Plasma Control System (PCS).
  • Lead real-time diagnostic and control activities on KSTAR and other fusion devices.
