Job summary

CPS, Inc. in Chicago seeks a Java Trading Systems Developer to build and enhance high-performance trading applications supporting front-office trading and execution.

This role collaborates with traders, quantitative researchers, and engineers to deliver reliable real-time systems for active markets. Responsibilities include designing Java-based trading systems, building real-time order management and market-data workflows, and optimizing latency, throughput, and memory usage.

Qualifications

• Strong professional Java development experience.
• Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, data structures, algorithms, and JVM performance.
• Experience developing distributed, real-time, or high-throughput systems.
• Strong Linux development and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with messaging technologies, networking, and TCP/UDP is preferred.
• Knowledge of FIX or other financial-market protocols is a plus.
• Experience with equities, futures, options, fixed income, FX, or other electronically traded products is preferred.
• Previous experience in proprietary trading, hedge funds, investment banking, exchanges, or financial technology is highly desirable.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance trading systems and services using Java.
• Build real-time, event-driven applications for order management, execution, market data, and trading workflows.
• Develop highly concurrent and multithreaded systems with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Integrate with exchanges, brokers, market-data providers, and other electronic trading venues.
• Analyze and improve application latency, throughput, memory usage, and overall system performance.
• Work directly with traders and quantitative teams to understand requirements and deliver production solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across trading applications and infrastructure.
• Participate in system design, code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing platform improvements.
