Job summary

AEP Service Corporation is seeking a Real Time Operations Security Specialist Sr to design and implement security for OT systems and lead security projects. The role focuses on safeguarding critical infrastructure and coordinating incident response across OT/IT domains.

The position requires strong OT security expertise, documentation of security projects, and collaboration with leadership to improve security posture. Onsite work at multiple U.S. locations is required.

Qualifications

• Four years of relevant cybersecurity experience required.
• Experience in IT/OT security and OT protocols is essential.
• Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred; associate degree with experience acceptable.
• Onsite five days per week at listed locations; CISSP or other security cert preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced security architectures for OT systems.
• Lead security incident response efforts and investigations.
• Develop and deliver training on OT security best practices.
• Document security systems, projects, and processes for unified understanding.
• Plan and implement complex security initiatives and incidents.
• Communicate security concepts clearly to teams and leadership.
• Collaborate on team learning and knowledge sharing.
• Gather requirements to improve security posture and cost-effectiveness.
• Research new opportunities to enhance security posture and propose ideas.
• Manage time and resources to handle multiple assignments.
• Formulate effective work plans and share with teams to meet objectives.
• Explain Security's role in Enterprise Security strategies and requirements.
• Tasks include vulnerability management, patch management, AD administration, endpoint security, firewall ACLs, encryption, logging, alerting, and access management.
• Consider risk and impact to SCADA/EMS and Bulk Electric System in all tasks.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Cyber Security Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for protecting our organization's computer systems and networks from cyber threats. You will be involved in monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to security incidents. Must be onsite five days per week at one of the following locations: New Albany, OH Shreveport, LA Salem, VA Corpus Christi, TX.

What you’ll do:

Essential Job Functions & Tasks

• Design and implement advanced security architectures for OT systems.
• Lead security incident response efforts and investigations.
• Develop and deliver training on OT security best practices.
• Develops and maintains necessary documentation of security systems, projects, and/or processes to ensure unified understanding of system details.
• Plans and implements complex security projects/initiatives/incidents.
• Translates and presents security topics competently to team members and AEP's leaders; Establishes recommendations based on options presented.
• Present security information in a clear and concise manner.
• Collaborates on team learning needs and engages in opportunities to increase knowledge in security areas.
• Gathers first-hand information on security requirements to find the most cost-effective improvements in security posture.
• Researches and supplies new opportunities to improve security posture; presents new ideas and approaches.
• Manages time and resources efficiently to accommodate multiple assignments.
• Formulates most effective work plan and shares with other team members and groups to meet required security objectives.
• Communicates the role and expectations of Security in meeting Enterprise Security strategies and requirements.
• Specific tasks include vulnerability management, patch management, active directory administration, anti-virus and endpoint security, firewall ACL management, encryption and certificate management, security logging and alerting, and access/password management.
• Complete all tasks with consideration for risk and impact to the SCADA/EMS system and the Bulk Electric System.

Additional Requirements:

Strong technical knowledge of OT protocols and security technologies.

Over-time, on-call assignments, and occasional travel may be required.

Nice-To-Have:

• Licenses/Certifications: CISSP or other Security certification preferred.

RT Ops Security Spec Sr (SG8):

Education requirements are listed below: Minimum of an associate’s degree in an applicable area OR equivalent education and experience of a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of relevant experience in an applicable area or certification in an applicable area. Applicable areas defined as: IT/OT System Administration, IT/OT Application Support, Cyber Security, ADMS/DMS/EMS/OMS/SCADA. Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

In addition to any experience included in education requirements above, must have four (4) years of relevant experience in a related role.

RT Ops Security Spec Prin (SG9):

Education requirements are listed below: Minimum of an associate’s degree in an applicable area OR equivalent education and experience of a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of relevant experience in an applicable area or certification in an applicable area. Applicable areas defined as: IT/OT System Administration, IT/OT Application Support, Cyber Security, ADMS/DMS/EMS/OMS/SCADA. Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred / advanced degree is an added plus.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

In addition to any experience included in education requirements above, must have eight (8) years of domain experience in a related role. Experience will typically include at least seven (7) years in cyber security with significant experience in OT security.

Compensation Data Compensation Grade: SP20-008 Compensation Range: $98,993.00 - $151,132.50
