Job summary

Virgin Galactic is seeking a Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and maintain high-fidelity flight simulation environments supporting pilots, engineers, and Mission Control. This role collaborates with pilots, flight-test personnel, and hardware teams to translate requirements into simulator capabilities for training and flight-test preparation.

The position is based in southern New Mexico, near Spaceport America, with Las Cruces as the primary residential community for many employees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C and/or C++.
• Experience with real-time, embedded, or hardware-in-the-loop systems.
• Experience with complex software/hardware interfaces.
• Familiar with TCP/IP/UDP networking and Git version control.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Interest in aviation or aerospace and safety.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain high-fidelity simulation software.
• Develop real-time C/C++ simulation applications.
• Integrate models and hardware into simulation environments.
• Create interfaces between simulation software and cockpit hardware.
• Support data acquisition, visualization, and network communication.
• Contribute to distributed simulation synchronization and data sharing.
• Troubleshoot software, network, and hardware integration issues.
• Translate flight-test and training requirements into simulator capabilities.
• Support configuration, verification, and readiness for training and simulations.
• Develop failure scenarios for training and pre-flight preparation.
• Improve reliability, performance, and usability of simulators.
• Participate in code reviews, CI/CD, and automation.
