Job summary

AIR Communities is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Real Estate Accounting team in Denver. You will support month-end close, reconciliations, financial analysis, and asset management in a fast-paced, office-based environment.

The role offers growth within a Blackstone portfolio company, exposure to debt accounting, financial reporting, and collaborative mentorship to advance your career.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Internship experience, public accounting, or 1–3 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience performing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort with financial systems (e.g., Workday/SmartView).

Responsibilities

  • Month-end close and general accounting duties including journal entries and accruals.
  • Prepare reconciliations for monthly, quarterly, and annual periods; investigate discrepancies.
  • Perform variance analyses and assist in financial reporting and distributions.
  • Manage asset and expense schedules, depreciation, and related entries.

Where You Will Work

Our corporate office is located in Denver Tech Center. Our office spans the top two floors of the building and features expansive views of the mountains and the downtown skyline.

AIR values relationships and the benefits from working side by side with teammates, therefore this position will be in-office 5 days a week to support operations.

What You Will Do

Month-End Close & General Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries related to the monthly close process
  • Assist in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reporting
  • Record accruals, reclassifications, prepaid expenses, and other recurring accounting transactions
  • Support timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities

Reconciliations & Financial Accuracy

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies while maintaining strong internal controls
  • Monitor account activity to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data
  • Manage debt-related reconciliations and supporting schedules

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform actual-to-budget and actual-to-forecast variance analysis
  • Prepare financial analyses, roll-forwards, and supporting schedules
  • Assist with preparation, review, and distribution of financial reports
  • Provide meaningful insights that support operational and financial decision-making

Asset & Expense Management

  • Manage prepaid expense schedules and related accounting entries
  • Maintain fixed asset and intangible asset records
  • Record monthly depreciation and amortization activities
  • Ensure proper classification and tracking of company assets
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather information and improve processes
  • Support accounting initiatives and process improvement opportunities
  • Contribute ideas that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall team performance
  • Provide exceptional internal customer service while building strong working relationships

Additional Information

AIRoffers attractive total compensation packages designed to recognize and reward performance including:

  • Expected pay rangeof$65,000 - $80,000 base salary plus annual target bonus. You will be provided a pay rate that is in line with your skills and experience as they relate to the requirements of the job.
