Job summary

Miller Johnson seeks a motivated Real Estate & Land Use Attorney to join our Real Estate Practice Group in Grand Rapids, Detroit, or Kalamazoo offices. This role focuses on complex land use, zoning, and development matters, working with developers, municipalities, and clients across Michigan.

Ideal candidates have a background in real estate, development, energy & sustainability, or municipal law, with a collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and experience in both transactional and litigation

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license (or eligibility) to practice law in Michigan.
• 2+ years of experience in commercial real estate, land use, zoning, or related fields.
• Strong research, drafting, analytical, and client counseling skills.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on zoning, land use, and development-related matters, including rezonings and site plan approvals.
• Support real estate and renewable energy development through due diligence and regulatory reviews.
• Draft and negotiate development-related agreements and related documents.
• Collaborate with planners, engineers, consultants, and attorneys across practice areas.
• Represent clients before planning commissions, zoning boards, and municipal bodies.
• Assist with land use disputes and regulatory matters on development projects.
• Manage multiple priorities with strong organization and communication.
