Job summary

Bailard is seeking a Real Estate Associate to join the Real Estate team in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will lead property-level analytics for the Fund’s investments, assist with underwriting acquisitions, and support asset management across property types and geographies.

You’ll work with senior real estate professionals, prepare internal investment memos, coordinate due diligence with legal counsel and lenders, and participate in quarterly valuations and hold/sell analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
• 3–5 years of commercial real estate experience.
• Strong Argus and Excel skills with cash flow and waterfall modeling.
• Excellent written and oral communication; able to engage multiple audiences.
• Willingness to travel and cover markets nationally.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial analysis for potential acquisitions, including Argus/Excel models and cash flows.
• Coordinate due diligence with legal counsel, consultants, brokers, and lenders.
• Compile market research and acquisition assumptions (leases, comps, development pipeline).
• Support asset management: lease negotiations, capital plans, financings, and hold/sell analyses.
• Prepare internal investment memos for acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and refinancings.
• Provide oversight and mentorship to junior team members.
• Interact with brokers, property managers, and JV partners to implement asset-level plans.
• Lead quarterly valuations with third-party appraisers.

Who are you

The Real Estate Associate is a key member of the Bailard, Inc. Real Estate team and is an integral position for the organization, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Real Estate. The Real Estate Associate will have a leading role in the property-level analytical activities for the Fund’s investments. The position will provide support to both the acquisition and asset management disciplines, across all property types and geographies. The functions of the role include underwriting new investments, providing financial analysis for all investment-level decisions, assisting with quarterly valuations of existing investments, and working closely with the fund’s portfolio managers. Additional responsibilities include support for real estate-related projects and duties.

Responsibilities

• Conducting financial analysis for potential acquisitions, including creating and modifying Argus and Excel models, discounted cash flows, and partnership waterfalls.
• Coordinate due diligence with legal counsel, third-party consultants, investment brokers, and lenders.
• Compile market research necessary for acquisition assumptions, including lease and sales comparables, competitive sets, development pipeline, and other market data as needed.
• Support and lead ongoing asset management initiatives including new lease negotiations, execution of capital plans, property financings, development asset draw schedules, and hold/sell analysis for exit scenarios.
• Interface with third-party stakeholders including leasing brokers, property managers, and joint venture partners to create and enact asset-level business plans.
• Manage quarterly valuations of existing assets via third-party appraisals.
• Prepare internal investment memos for acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and refinancing.
• Provide oversight and support for junior team members.
• Additional duties as required by the Real Estate team

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
• 3-5 years of work experience in commercial real estate.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with the ability to effectively adapt communication to multiple audiences.
• Strong proficiency in Argus and Excel with experience in discounted cash flow modeling and waterfall structures.
• Desire to work across real estate disciplines and learn all asset classes.
• Experience working within the financial services or investment management industry.
• Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated ability to stay current with technological developments.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Desire to travel and cover markets nationally

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in the Financial Services Industry, specifically in Real Estate.
• Knowledge and understanding of SEC regulatory requirements and the technology required to meet those requirements.

• Hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area
• Travel as required

Salary

$130,000 - $150,000
