Job summary

Lewis & Clark College is seeking a Reading Tutor to work with elementary students at Markham Elementary in Portland. The role strengthens literacy, boosts confidence, and fosters positive learning experiences. Interviews will occur 9/14–9/18 with an anticipated start date of 10/5.

Shifts run 8:00 am–4:45 pm, Monday–Friday, for 4–10 hours weekly. Transportation to Markham is required. This is a Federal Work Study position with a rate of $16.80 per hour and opportunities to model leadership and

Qualifications

• Federal Work Study required for eligibility.
• Able to commit 4–10 hours per week.
• Willing to work with elementary students in literacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group reading instruction to elementary students
• Support reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutoring with literacy goals
• Track and report on student progress
• Maintain a safe, positive learning environment
