Job summary

Aspire Living & Learning in Connecticut is seeking a Reading Specialist to improve students' reading skills through collaboration with our school team and development of individualized plans aligned with IEP goals.

Hours are Mon-Fri 7a-3p, with location in Trumbull and one day per week in Naugatuck. The role requires a Master's in Reading/Literacy, Reading Specialist certification, and at least 2 years in special education or literacy.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, Special Education or related field.
• Certification as a Reading Specialist and/or Special Education Teacher as required by state.
• Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a special education or literacy-focused setting.
• Knowledge of multi-sensory reading programs and strategies for students with learning disabilities.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
• Satisfactory background checks and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assess students' reading abilities using formal and informal assessments to determine needs.
• Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans aligned with IEP goals.
• Collaborate with teachers, SLPs, OTs, and other team members to support literacy development.
• Provide direct instruction in reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Monitor progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
• Participate in IEP meetings and support goal development with data.
