Job summary

Hillcrest is seeking a Reading Specialist to provide comprehensive reading instruction and intervention for students, including screening, assessment, and case management, while ensuring compliance with regulations. The role also acts as a coach for teachers, delivering literacy expertise for students with disabilities.

The position requires a Master’s in Education/Reading with an MA Reading Specialist license, several years’ literacy coaching or teaching experience, and a commitment to ongoing

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Education, Reading, or related field with MA Reading Specialist license.
• Several years of teaching experience in literacy or special education.
• Experience coaching or leading educational initiatives preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring teachers in implementing effective literacy instruction for students with disabilities.
• Modeling instructional practices and sharing expert literacy strategies.
• Leading professional development workshops and training sessions.
• Collaborating with teachers to plan literacy instruction aligned with IEP goals.
• Using data to guide instructional decisions and interventions.
• Developing or recommending literacy resources for diverse learners.
• Monitoring student progress and adjusting interventions as needed.

Salary Range

$56,475 - $73,396

Position Description

Responsible for providing comprehensive reading instruction and intervention to students, including screening, assessment, and case management, while adhering to company and state regulations. The Reading Specialist will also serve as a coach and mentor to teachers, providing expertise in literacy instruction, particularly for students with disabilities.

Educational Requirements

Master’s Degree in Education, Reading, or a related field with a MA Reading Specialist license.

Experience Requirements

• Teaching Experience: Several years of teaching experience, particularly in literacy or special education. Experience working with students with disabilities.
• Experience in Coaching or Leadership: Previous experience in a coaching, mentoring, or leadership role within an educational setting is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coaching and Mentoring: Provide coaching and support to teachers in implementing effective literacy instruction tailored to the needs of students with disabilities.
2. Modeling Instruction: Demonstrate effective teaching strategies in the classroom and model best practices for literacy instruction.
3. Professional Development: Lead workshops, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities focused on literacy education and special education practices.
4. Collaborative Planning: Work with teachers to plan and implement literacy instruction that aligns with students' IEP goals.
5. Data-Driven Instruction: Use assessment data to guide instructional decisions and help teachers refine their literacy instruction to better meet the needs of students.
6. Resource Development: Develop or recommend instructional materials and resources that support literacy development for students with special needs.
7. Monitoring Progress: Help teachers monitor student progress in literacy and adjust interventions as necessary to ensure student growth.
