Job summary

South Harrison Co R-2 School District in Bethany, Missouri is seeking a Reading Paraprofessional to support Supplemental ELA instruction and literacy development for students.

Under the supervision of the Supplemental ELA Teacher, you will assist with phonics, fluency, and comprehension through small group and one-on-one sessions, fostering a positive learning environment and targeted instructional strategies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Active Substitute License required or eligible.
• Experience working with children in educational settings preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential.
• Ability to follow instructional plans provided by licensed staff.
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension strategies preferred (training may be provided).

Responsibilities

• Assist students in learning letter names, sounds, and sound combinations.
• Guide students in developing phonemic awareness through blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds.
• Support reading comprehension by helping with main ideas and text connections.
• Reinforce literacy strategies and use age-appropriate instructional materials.
• Provide small group or one-on-one support as directed by the Supplemental ELA Teacher.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to guide instruction.
• Contribute to a positive, safe learning environment where students feel comfortable trying new skills.
