Job summary

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a full-time Reading Teacher Coach Specialist to support the WORDS project across Nebraska schools, delivering professional development and on-site coaching to teachers and districts.

Responsibilities include observing reading instruction, providing training, maintaining resource libraries, and collaborating with WORDS leadership to align activities with project goals; some travel and remote work are involved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, child development or related field plus at least three years’ experience in a school district and/or with educators and families on reading development.
  • Must possess independent problem-solving skills and excellent communication and customer/client service skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Must be able to use word-processing, databases, and presentation software; work independently and in a team; keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of Nebraska school systems and a valid driver’s license with university eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an active member of the WORDS project and conduct reading observations.
  • Evaluate reading instruction in schools across the state and provide consultation and on-site support.
  • Provide reading professional development opportunities for district and ESU staff and community professionals.
  • Collaborate with WORDS leadership to align activities with project goals.
  • Maintain the WORDS Resource Library with current publications and stay informed on evidence-based practices.
  • Travel to schools; some work can be done remotely via virtual conferencing.
