Job summary

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh seeks a Lamp Reader Advisor, PT to provide exemplary reader advisory services for LAMP patrons, including braille and recorded materials access. You will assist with accounts, technology, and book recommendations while promoting library services across the LAMP community.

This 25-hour-per-week role supports collaboration with the National Library Service and partners, contributing to initiatives and pilot projects in-person and virtually.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or four years of public service experience as determined by the Employer.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively in written and verbal channels.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding reader advisory service by communicating with patrons and managing patron accounts for LAMP materials.
  • Identify patron needs and assist with BARD and other accessible technologies.
  • Engage with the LAMP community including print-disabled users, families, and partner organizations.
  • Participate in local, state-wide, and national activities with national library networks.
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements to Reader Advisor Team processes and LAMP services.
  • Collaborate with and advocate for a diverse public, peers, and staff.

LAMP Reader Advisor, PT
Job Summary:

Provides exemplary reader advisory service for the patrons of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians (LAMP), a statewide library service that provides braille and recorded materials to all Pennsylvanians who cannot see regular print or handle print materials. Performs patron-based services in-person and via email and telephone. These services include account management, technology assistance and book recommendations. Acts as an enthusiastic and flexible member of the LAMP Patron Services Team, promoting library services by contributing content to LAMP communication outlets, internal and external, and advocating in areas of accessibility. Actively participates in LAMP initiatives and pilot projects through collaborations with the National Library Service and partnering organizations, both virtually, in person and throughout the LAMP community.

CLP-LAMP, Pittsburgh, PA.

Work Hours:

25 hours per week; Monday – Friday

Education & Physical Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or;
  • A minimum of four years of experience at the Employer’s facilities or in an equivalent public service role demonstrating successful application of customer service standards, as determined in the sole discretion of the Employer.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Experience:
  • Two years of experience working with a diverse public in a customer service setting;
  • Experience working in the disability community preferred;
  • Communicate positively, professionally, and effectively in both written and verbal channels;
  • Knowledge of CLP policies and National Library Services practices, trends in library science and services;
  • Technological aptitude, including the ability to adapt to new technologies; experience with Microsoft Office;
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Deliver outstanding reader advisory service by communicating with patrons, managing patron accounts and having knowledge of the collections of LAMP, BARD and Bookshare;
  • Identify patron needs and provide assistance with BARD and other accessible technologies;
  • Understand and engage with the LAMP community (i.e. print disabled users, families, and partnering organizations who support the print disabled);
  • Participation in activities, programming, committees and teams locally, state-wide and nationally, including Free Library of Philadelphia and the network of the National Library Service;
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the current processes of the Reader Advisor Team and/or LAMP services to respond to the changing needs of the library and its users;
  • Engage, collaborate effectively with and advocate for a diverse public, peers and staff, particularly with those in the disability community.

  • FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check
  • Mandated Reporter Training
