Job description

Consultant Hepatologist | Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust

Our thriving and dynamic Gastroenterology department is based at Oldham, Fairfield and Rochdale, and is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA).

This is a unique and exciting time to join an NHS service that is focused on delivering the best healthcare services to our local population, demonstrated by recent investment in an award winning Community Diagnostic Centre in Oldham (CDC), away from the acute site.

This state of the art modular build has PET-CT (to be upgraded to one of the first digital PET CT scanners in the country), MR, CT, Ultrasound and physiological testing. It has been the focus of national attention, visited by the Prime Minister, Professor Sir Mike Richards & the National Clinical Director for Elective care. It recently won two HSJ Partnership awards and has featured in National news articles about diagnostics.

In Autumn 2024 the CDC will be enhanced further by a co-located 3 room endoscopy unit with clinical rooms and on-site decontamination. Our ambition at the CDC is to transform the way that we traditionally deliver healthcare and to explore new and innovative delivery models that reflect the needs of both our staff and our patients. There cannot be a better time to join our team.

We have an award winning Tertiary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre, led by Professor J.K.Limdi, recognised nationally and internationally for clinical services and research.

Team members have the opportunity to influence the development of services.

This subspecialty post is focused on expanding our dedicated Hepatology service line. The post holder will lead clinical governance for advanced liver diseases, drive the institutional expansion of non-invasive liver fibrosis screening, and manage specialised Liver MDTs and rapid hot clinic models.

The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in Hepatology and General Internal Medicine. The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register (Gastroenterology and preferably also General Internal Medicine) or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

Alongside the CDC, there are 3 endoscopy units across Oldham, Fairfield & Rochdale sites, making this one of the largest endoscopy services in the country. The Endoscopy service offers NHS Bowel Cancer screening colonoscopy, ERCP, HPB, EUS, advanced Lower GI EMR/ ESD.

The non-elective inpatient services are centralised on The Royal Oldham Hospital site, the gastroenterology team provide gastroenterology in-reach and outpatients at the 3 sites. There is an excellent, long established GI physiology department.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) provides hospital and integrated health and social care services to over one million people living across Greater Manchester. Our 20,000 colleagues care for people in hospital and in the community, working across Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford, to save and improve lives.

As a large NHS trust we are committed to enhancing the health of our local population by delivering consistently high standards of care and working closely with local authorities and key partners. We believe in our power and potential to make a difference and we’re always looking for people who demonstrate our three core values - care, appreciate and inspire – to join our team.

In return, we can offer you a job role with purpose and flexibility. The size and scale of the NCA means we can provide more challenge and opportunities so your career can always be moving in the right direction. By joining us you can also access a competitive benefits package, including, a fantastic annual leave allowance, flexible working opportunities and protected hours for health and wellbeing activities, helping you to achieve more personal downtime and a better work-life balance.

Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum. Hours: Full-time. Location: Oldham, OL1 2JH. Job type: Permanent.

Proud member of the Disability Confident employer scheme.
