We prioritize building a sustainable and healthy business. We currently serve hundreds of thousands of paid subscribers and aim to expand our reach to millions. We are financially stable and selective in our hiring process.
We believe real-time collaboration and human connection are essential for building a high-velocity, creatively-oriented consumer product. We maintain core hours (9:30 AM - 2:30 PM Pacific) when everyone is online, regardless of time zone. Over half of our team is located near our hubs in SF and NYC.
The Role
Engineers collaborate closely with teammates from Product, Design, and Data in cross-disciplinary pods to address important challenges for our learners and business. We are seeking a frontend-focused growth engineer to enhance user experience and drive growth. This role is part of our Growth Pod, which encourages users to explore new learning opportunities and remain committed to their goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop engaging and polished front-end user experiences that inspire global learning on the platform
- Maintain a holistic view from both technical and business perspectives, ensuring your pod stays aligned with building the right solutions effectively.
- Exercise autonomy and technical authority within a supportive team environment.
- Foster a culture of excellence, setting high standards for candor and mutual accountability while balancing speed and quality.
- Advocate for initiatives that enhance the developer experience for Brilliant's engineers and the user experience for our learners.
- Consistently consider the impact on our learners.
Who Are You?
- You have at least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on frontend polish and growth-oriented experimentation.
- You are driven by solving user problems and enjoy tackling technical challenges in a straightforward manner.
- You write code that is clear and understandable, avoiding overly complex solutions.
- You are eager to collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and designers, and enjoy mentoring and being mentored.
- You have experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React, and are open to using the best tools for the job.
- You stay updated with the latest technologies and can distinguish between significant innovations and passing trends.
- You have a favorite product and can articulate what makes it delightful, often considering how products can be improved.
- You are constantly exploring AI tools and workflows to enhance productivity.
Our Engineering Team
The engineering team is small, elite, and AI-enabled. We prioritize moving quickly, resolving issues promptly, and focusing on outcomes over outputs. Our team consists of former founders, early employees, and engineering leaders who bring drive, judgment, and high standards, creating a strong sense of momentum. We support and challenge each other to do our best work every day.
Compensation and Benefits
- We use a systematic compensation framework with set salary scales for each job vertical. Managers level team members, and these levels map directly to our compensation scales. Location-based adjustments apply outside of SF and NYC (typically 5-10%).
- We make First and Best offers, ensuring compensation reflects expected contributions rather than negotiation skills.
- We offer top-notch healthcare plans, covering 100% of premiums for medical, dental, and vision for employees. Approximately one-third of our team are parents, and we provide generous parental leave and up to $1,900/month in dependent healthcare coverage.
- We offer flexible PTO, with a norm of taking about 6 weeks off per year (including federal holidays). Additional benefits include home office equipment, a professional development stipend, and free food at our offices.
