Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced RCM Coding Manager to lead and manage our medical coding operations with a focus on Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Anesthesia services. This individual will oversee coding staff, ensure compliance with federal regulations, maintain accuracy in coding and billing practices, and support optimization of revenue capture within the designated specialties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and support a small team of medical coders specializing in Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and/or Anesthesia.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new coding staff as needed.

Coding Oversight & Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee day-to-day coding operations to ensure accurate and timely coding of inpatient and outpatient encounters.
  • Perform regular audits of coded records to ensure compliance with coding guidelines (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) and payer policies.
  • Monitor coding productivity and quality metrics, providing education and remediation when needed.

Revenue Cycle Optimization:

  • Partner with billing and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams to maximize revenue opportunities and minimize denials.
  • Identify trends or issues in coding or documentation that may impact reimbursement.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Anesthesia coding.
  • Liaise with physicians, hospital administration, and other departments to ensure documentation supports compliant and optimal coding.

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required

Certifications (Required):

  • Coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of medical coding experience, with at least 2 years focused in Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Anesthesia.
  • At least 2 years in a coding supervisory or management role.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Familiarity with E/M coding, facility and professional fee billing, and payer-specific requirements.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
